Travel Requirements

While it is the goal of the Nurse Anesthesia Program to provide the student with educational experiences “close to home” when possible, there is essential with the program of study.

All students will travel to the MSU main campus in Beckley, West Virginia for classes during the first 15 months of the program. The travel will include classes on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday on the campus. Most class days will be twelve hours in duration. Adjustments in the classes are made to coordinate availability of hotel rooms for out of town students and thus may infrequently require alternate days for travel and classes.

During the clinical component, the program faculty will attempt to develop clinical experiences for the students near their homes. However; this is not always possible. Students may be required to move to locations where clinical sites have been developed to obtain clinical experiences.

Specialty rotations in Neurosurgery, Trauma, Cardiovascular, Pediatrics and Obstetrics are not available at all facilities. Students will be required to travel to specific clinical sites for specialty rotations.

All students in a clinical cohort will return to campus for three days every three months to participate in discussions, presentations, laboratory experiences and examinations.
